HN Flex are short units of study that will prepare you for progressing onto a Higher National qualification (HNC/HND).

This short course offers the flexibility to gain knowledge and skills in a bite-sized way, without having to enrol on a full qualification. You’ll be able to stack multiple units together to work towards a Higher National qualification in the future.

For those that want to learn about light and sound in the Film & TV industry. Unit 9: Light and Sound gives you the opportunity to achieve a Certificate of Unit Credit (CoUC) upon completion from BTEC.

You'll explore the creative opportunities for using light and sound to contribute to media products. You'll identify and explore light and sound strategies to implement in your own work through undertaking practical work.

You'll study:

  • practical and theory in the principles of light and sound
  • strategies for light and sound application
  • relationships between light and sound with image
  • testing techniques
  • legal and ethical issues
  • operating and managing light and sound equipment

You will be assessed by undertaking Unit 9: Light and Sound from HNC Creative Media. You will need to demonstrate your understanding of light and sound through practical work, written assignments and oral presentations.

You will have GCSEs including Maths or English, or equivalent, and understand how to operate a computer.

HN Flex offers the chance to study stackable skills within a single BTEC Higher National qualification, with the progression opportunity to a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) qualification, achieving a Certificate of Unit Credit (CoUC) upon completion of the individual units studied.

Where it can lead to

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
