HN Flex are short units of study that will prepare you for progressing onto a Higher National qualification (HNC/HND).

This short course offers the flexibility to gain knowledge and skills in a bite-sized way, without having to enrol on a full qualification. You’ll be able to stack multiple units together to work towards a Higher National qualification in the future.

You'll explore the foundation and growth of the film industry, including technical, cultural and social changes.

You will gain an awareness of the film industry, its audience and the development of narrative film. You will also understand theoretical models of film investigation, and will be able to employ an academic approach to film examination. This unit will also develop your knowledge of film history, as well as abilities in critical analysis techniques and research methods.

You'll explore film spectatorship, examining the changing contexts of exhibition and conditions of reception. The unit will also consider how narrative has been shaped as the industry has grown, highlighting forms of character and story development, as well as traditional and non-traditional structures.

You will be assessed by undertaking Unit 8: Film Studies from the HNC Creative Media. You'll complete written assignments, report writing, and oral presentations demonstrating your development and understanding of the Film Industry.

You will have GCSEs including English or equivalent and understand how to operate a computer with internet access.

By undertaking Unit 8: Film Studies, the HN Flex offers you the chance to study stackable skills within a single BTEC Higher National qualification, with the progression opportunity to a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) qualification, achieving a Certificate of Unit Credit (CoUC) upon completion of the individual units studied.
