The primary role of a Property Maintenance Operative is to optimise property condition and quality and to ensure the building is kept in a safe working condition.
PMOs need to maintain a high level of quality, providing maximum satisfaction to customers, clients, guests and their teams.
Key responsibilities in the role of Property Maintenance Operative include:
- Understanding the mechanism of buildings including electrical, plumbing, plant, safety systems and equipment
- Providing first and immediate response to fault finding whilst maximising quality and ensuring cost effectiveness
- Ensuring prevention of major damage that could result in extensive costs and minimise reactive intervention
During the programme modules will include
- Health and safety
- Organisational policy and procedures
- Working safely at height
- Carpentry and joinery
- Electrical safety
- Maintaining a safe and hygienic environment
- Repairs and reactive maintenance
To achieve the apprenticeship standard all components must be completed, including Functional skills at the required level if the apprentice doesn’t have exemptions. All apprenticeship standards include an end point assessment which is required to complete the standard.
It is up to the employer to determine entry requirements for this programme
Working a minimum of 30 hours per week
Completing this apprenticeship programme will allow development through a Level 3 Apprenticeship and enable progression into job roles such across a wide range of sectors.
These include:
- Technical Specialist (Electrical or Plumbing, for example)
- Supervisory and management positions (such as Facilities Management)
The apprentice will be recognised by the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM).
The BIFM provides Associate Membership for you whilst you study, and will provide support by making resources and learning materials available to you during your development.
