This course incorporates acting, movement & dance and aims to develop skills to create an all-round 21st-century performer.

The course focuses on developing a wide range of knowledge & skills and includes exploring different ways of working in various Performance Styles, Creating material through physical theatre, movement & text and planning a creative career. Much of the course involves practical explorations and public performances alongside project-based work as well as building a personal Portfolio.

Units studied include:

  • Exploring Performance Styles
  • Creating Performance Material
  • Performing to an Audience
  • Planning a Career in the industry

You will study in a creatively rich environment, the Broadway Theatre in Barking. A working theatre, which is managed by Barking & Dagenham College, as well as being home to our School for the Performing Arts & Technical Theatre. You will also have access to the theatre stage for both rehearsal and performances.

You will work collaboratively with other students on productions both at the Theatre and at other venues, and you will have the opportunity to choreograph your own vibrant and innovative pieces.

All Assessments are internal and use a of methods which include: Practical workshops, Performances, written assignments, reflective logs & digital documentation of process.

You should have at least 4 GCSEs at level 4 or above, or grade A* - C, including Maths and English, and one performing arts subject.

Admission to the course is by interview.

There are a range of trips and workshops with industry professionals such as: The Donmar Warehouse, Guildhall and Central School of Speech and Drama. NT Connections project working with new plays. Work experience on Site at The Broadway Theatre working as part of the Front of House team in a range of roles.

On successful completion of this course you can go on to study the Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Practice at Barking & Dagenham College.

Where it can lead to

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
