Join us at our Adult Core Skills Virtual Open Event

Our Functional Skills courses in English and Maths run from Entry Level to Level 2.

English learning will start with basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. It will progress through understanding grammar, punctuation and sentence structure – to developing critical-thinking and text-analysis skills.

Maths courses will cover a range of mathematical techniques. You’ll start by improving your understanding of numbers, fractions and percentages, and move onto applying your knowledge, measuring shape and space, and handling data in practical situations.

Courses are flexible to suit you. Choose to study day or evening, at either our Rush Green or Barking campus. These courses start throughout the year, so when you apply we'll enrol you onto the next available start date.

In these sessions we will discuss:

  • What functional skills courses and career opportunities are available
  • What your learning and student experience will look like
  • Pathways into your chosen future career
  • How to secure your place

Our panel of expert curriculum leaders, career advisors and employers will be available to answer any questions you may have.

During and following the events, our career advice and admissions team will be on hand to help you with your application and secure your place with us.

In the meantime, if you have any specific concerns not covered here, you can email info@bdc.ac.uk
